Introduction
Dr. B.O. (Brian) Bingen is a cardiologist with a focus on interventional cardiology. In 2011, he graduated with honor with his medical degree, and in 2016, he also received his PhD with honor on the topic "Molecular and cellular determinants of cardiac tachyarrhythmias: from trigger to therapy," under the supervision of Prof. Dr. M.J. Schalij. This research explored the basic mechanisms behind the development of rapid heart rhythm disorders and tested experimental therapies for arrhythmias in a laboratory setting.
In 2021, he completed his cardiology specialty training, and in 2023, he finished his subspecialty training in interventional cardiology. He currently works as an interventional cardiologist at the Leiden University Medical Center, where he is researching ways to diagnose and treat coronary microvascular dysfunction (disease of the microscopic extensions of the large coronary arteries).
